Teacher Licensure Needed:  Yes

Master’s Degree Needed: Not for initial licensure, but for the professional license.

Praxis II Library Media Content Test Needed: No

Other Testing Needed: No

Description: Wisconsin offers both an initial license and a professional license for the library media specialist.

Evaluation Process for Licensure

Criteria for eligible individuals:

Teaching license

  • Approved library media program
  • No later than 5 years after obtaining the initial the candidate must apply for professional licensure, which requires the Masters Degree.

Reciprocity: The Wisconsin License Based on Reciprocity pathway provides for a five-year license to teach or be an administrator.  During this time, the educator may complete the requirements of our Out-of-State pathway.  The requirements for this license may be found at: https://dpi.wi.gov/tepdl/pathways/oos
