Certification Requirements

Teacher Licensure Needed:  Yes

Master’s Degree Needed: No

Praxis II Library Media Content Test Needed: Yes, passing score is 141 (this may be subject to change, check with the Utah Department of Education).

Other Testing Needed: Yes, as of July 1, 2005, all candidates for initial Utah licensure are required to submit a test score for a Utah State Board of Education approved subject assessment appropriate for their area of concentration or endorsement as part of the application for Utah licensure.

Description: Library Media certification is considered an additional subject area endorsement beyond the bachelor’s degree. Candidates must have a Level 1 or Level 2 elementary or secondary area of concentration license.

Reciprocity: All persons applying for Library Media K-12 Endorsements must meet the requirements of the Utah Library Media K-12 Endorsements. Having some kind of Library Media Endorsement or specialty in another state does not automatically grant you a Library Media K-12 Endorsement in Utah. The application must be reviewed to determine whether the Utah requirements have been satisfied.
