Certification Requirements

Teacher Licensure Needed:  Yes

Master’s Degree Needed: No

Praxis II Library Media Content Test Needed: No

Other Testing Needed: Not for transfer licenses from another state.

Description: Delaware offers a Certificate for School Library Media Specialist.

Evaluation Process for Licensure

Criteria for eligibility includes completion of the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any content area from a regionally accredited college/university; and,
  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university in an American Library Association (ALA) approved program in School Library/Media; or,
  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university in any other content area, including a general Media Library Specialist (MLS) degree, and completion of a program in School Library/Media approved by the Department which meets ALA Standards.

Reciprocity: Yes, if the candidate holds a full and current license/certificate comparable to a Delaware license.  Limited licenses will be individually evaluated.
