The Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE), Libraries Unlimited’s School Library Connection and the ALISE School Library SIG (Special Interest Group) proudly announce the ALISE/SLC Research Excellence Award. This award provides $1,500 and a complimentary one year subscription to School Library Connection and reVIEWS+ to recognize an outstanding paper reporting innovative research in school library services to young people.
Research papers are invited on research related to the impact and influence of school library programs on student learning, and other issues pertaining to school library programs and services.
Papers must include a section on the applicability of the research to practice. Also, papers should not have been previously published.
Papers will be judged on suitability of content/topic, reporting of innovative research, applicability to practice, and quality of writing.
Authors MUST be personal members of ALISE (Association for Library and Information Science Education) and members of the School Library SIG. In cases of joint authorship, one honorarium will be awarded for the paper. Graduate students, as well as faculty members, are eligible to submit papers. Only one paper per entrant may be submitted for the award. Authors may not simultaneously submit the same paper to other ALISE competitions or venues. Also, papers may not be submitted to non-ALISE publications and venues, until the award is announced. Currently-serving awards committee members are not eligible to submit a paper.
The winning author(s) is expected to present a summary of the paper during the ALISE Conference. The paper will be scheduled in one of the ALISE Awards sessions by the conference planning committee. Winning papers subsequently published should acknowledge having received the ALISE/SLC Paper Award.
The author(s) of the winning paper must also agree to be interviewed about their research by the editors of School Library Connection and agree to have School Library Connection publish the interview should the editors, at their discretion, choose to exercise their option to publish the interview.
Papers, including the title page, and abstract (150 word maximum), should be between 5,000- 7,000 words, excluding references. In addition, pages should have one-inch margins, be in 12-point font, and should be paginated in the upper right corner of each page.
The paper should be organized as follows:
